Being a complete self development buff it always astounds me just how many people set off without a clear destination, instead more of a “we will see when we get there” attitude right off the back. There is a time and a place for that attitude for example if you think the market will take a turn on a whim and you are considering cutting back production (when its still all good right now) it might help you overcome your stuf but when it comes to goals and outcomes you need to be specific.
A great example of this recently was a couple I asked this question they told me “we want to me millionaires in the next 7-10 years” a great goal at face value but that was about as specific as it got. What I wanted then to tell me was “We want to go travelling with out kids 3 times a year, live in a house with 4 bedrooms, fly the family over for yearly reunions, and all this will cost us $200,000 a year before tax” .
So my challenge for you is to get specific on what you want, then work out exactly how much it will cost you and set that as your target NOT the money first and “we’ll see what we can buy when we get there”…
