In the wonderful world of internet marketing there are so many things out there that claim they are THE thing you need to do. What they are ignorantly dismissing that it takes getting good at a few skills to make it in this space.

Here are a few good ones to start with.

1. SEO/Organic Traffic

Its hard to go broke on free traffic and this can be a huge profit center for your business. Learn basic onsite SEO and get a few link building stratagies under your belt and opporational. This used to be the holy grail of internet marketing.

2. PPC/Adwords

In some markets even if organic traffic didn’t exist you can make more money with PPC advertising. Learn how to use Adwords effectively including keyword stratagies, bidding, etc.

3. Testing/Analytics/Conversion

If you are not testing every single thing that you can you are like a ship without a rudder floating through the ocean hoping that you keep afloat.

On the other hand if you get good at tracking and analytics then it becomes a game stacked in your favor. Its like flipping a coin and if it lands heads you win, if it lands tails you get to flip again.

4. Outsourcing

There is no way you can ever do everything yourself. Even if you have no budget to start with, learn how to outsource everything. My view on this is such that if you can’t outsource then don’t even consider going into it. The more success you get and the more opportunities present themselves this becomes critically important.

5. Affiliate/JV

This is the new holy grail, imagine if you built a product and have a few people send thousands and thousands of targeted customers to your site, with a referral from someone they trust! All you have to do is make something that is valuable enough and be willing to give some of that value away (which sometimes means creating a lot of value).

Some others that you might want to consider making yourself familiar with:

  • Copywriting
  • Time Management
  • Email and follow up marketing
  • Upselling

Go out there and kick some arse.
