There I said it! I know there are so many people out there claiming to be social media experts. Many saying you need to be doing it to help get traffic to your blog.
I agree with them but there is one big thing they forget to mention…
For Social Media to be an effective strategy for your new blog you already need to have a following.
When you have the following more people see your posts and if the content is good they’re more likely to social bookmark the blog post and link to it through social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook.
Sneaky Tip to Fast Track Your Blogs Success
If you have friends in your niche who are willing to help you out by linking to your posts – great leverage your network. Remember to make it win win though!
Bottom line, when starting a new blog – if you dont have a following or friends who will leverage their following, you’re wasting your time trying to get traffic through social media.
Your time can be leveraged so much more using other strategies to help get exposure to your blog.
Dont get me wrong – social media is a strategy that is definitely worth using, though it’s only worth using if you have a following already established OR you can leverage your networks following.
If not social media, what should I do?
When starting out the best thing you can do is focus on creating lots of great content and building your relationship with other bloggers in your niche with the aim of writing guest posts and joint ventures.
Why build relationships with competitors?
They’re not competitors, they’re potential joint venture partners, potential affiliate promoters, friends to learn from and have the potential to bring more visitors to your blog.
Once you’ve built a relationship you then write great guests posts for them on their blog. That way it establishes you as an authority on the topic to all of their blogs readers.
After studying many successful bloggers I have realised that the most effective use of a new bloggers time is to be writing content for their own blog and also building relationships to do guest posts on other blogs related to your niche.
Now there are ways to enhance the success rate of being accepted to do a guest blog post. I will go into that in a future blog post.
For now, if you’re just starting out on your blog and you dont have a following – stop wasting your time on social media! Focus on writing content and building relationships with other bloggers in your niche.
Focus and always have fun
